Tamils - Are their refugee claims truly real?

Well, as was seen in Australia, it seems Tamils are now seeing Canada as a new asylum from their so-called persecution.

Now, don't get me wrong, some do get persecuted.  However, only those that are believed to be part of the Liberation Tigers of the Tamil-Eelam (LTTE), a terrorist organisation according to Sri Lanka and Canada alike. Why? Well, to put it in a nutshell: the Sinhalese, the majority representing roughly three quarters of Sri Lanka are Buddhists whilst the Tamils, the minority, are Hindu and Christian. The Tamils Tigers want to create a Tamil nation in Sri Lanka in the north and east. Pretty simple, eh? Not really. To begin with, Sri Lanka represents a country which is smaller than New Brunswick so, I'm guessing they would want to start a country the size of PEI? I can only imagine what border disputes would be like. They probably end up by going to war over a square inch.  But a Tamil country is the goal.

What's now happening in Canada, though, is a grave concern. There have been countless cases now of people indirectly and directly donating to terrorist organisations across our country. And Canadian Tamils have been doing it for years. Working here, sending funds to the LTTE. We saw what happened in Toronto and Ottawa last year with the blocking of roads, LTTE flags all over, destroying washrooms at the World Exchange Plaza and barbecuing in its underground parking lot! Only recently has the government of Canada recognised the LTTE for what it truly is: a terrorist organisation. After all, they created the suicide belt, perfected the use of suicide bombers, began using women in suicide attacks all the while managing to assassinate two world leaders and killing 4,000 people between 2006 and 2008 according to the FBI. Also, working with the PLO for training purposes. Isn't solidarity between radical terrorist organisations great? (Please note the sarcasm).  Needless to say, the LTTE should be proud of their record.

With this information, Canadians have to act in order to avoid getting some LTTE members as neighbours. Australia has been dealing with the problem of mass immigrations of Tamils for years now and Canada needs to follow their successful experiment of having off-shore immigration centres in order to process refugee claims before people arrive on mainland Canada. Not so we can be labelled as prejudiced or racist, but to ensure that we process the claims thoroughly without bias. In the event that a claim is rejected, especially if it is coming from a country where false claims are often made, you should be sent back.  Sooner rather than later to reduce costs to the Canadian taxpayer. If you come from Darfur, I don't think we need to question the legitimacy of your claim but if you are a Tamil and you are coming here, well, you might need to be turned back. Just because you don't like the country you're living in, doesn't mean you have to claim refugee status. Play by the rules!

For Australia's example, Kevin Libin of the National Post wrote this great article.
